My lights/devices don't respond instantly to a command

There are a number of reasons for the system to slow down a little this doesn't mean that it is not working, as long as the devices you need to control still work, then this is a temporary issue. However there are a couple of reasons for this to happen and there are things that can be done to help fix this.

First instance

Do nothing. The z wave network is a mesh one and as such it uses the nodes in the network to transmit commands to and from the Nifty brain. The system is regularly looking for the most efficient way to transmit data and this can, at times, lead to a slow down in the actions happening.

Second instance

Check to see if any of your sensors are battery powered and if their batteries are dead. With a dead or low powered battery, the sensor will no longer work as a node in the Z wave mesh network and so the network will need to compensate for this by re-routing information in a more inefficient manner. To do this check, please follow our FAQ on how to check your battery power in sensors.

Third instance

Have any devices been removed from the network or moved? Has a plug that traditionally controlled a lamp been moved to a different location to control another lamp or something new and nifty not been told? If so, this can cause a weakness in the network. Let us know contact us and we can remotely resolve the network to reflect the new situation. Removing a device completely impacts the integrity of the network and we strongly advise against this and it has the chance to invalidate your warranty and any support we can offer. If you need to do this, then please contact us first.

Overall though, the network will rework itself and you will notice that devices respond as fast as usual once it has settled down again.
