How to Connect and Use Amazon Alexa for Voice Control with Home Assistant

Setting Up Alexa with Home Assistant


A Nifty cloud subscription is required to use this service. After subscribing successfully, you will receive a username and password, which you’ll use to log in to the Home Assistant skill within the Alexa mobile app. If you have not subscribed, please submit a support ticket to https://support.nifty.place, and we will get back to you with further details and assistance.

Step 1: Download the Alexa App

  1. Download and install the Alexa app on your mobile device.
  2. Set up your Alexa device following the on-screen instructions.

Step 2: Enable the Home Assistant Skill in the Alexa App

  1. Open the Alexa app on your mobile device.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Skills & Games.
  3. Search for the Home Assistant skill and enable it.
  4. Sign in using the Nifty cloud subscription details sent to you to link it to Alexa.
  5. Once linked, you can ask Alexa to discover devices connected to your Home Assistant system.

Step 3: Set Up Devices to Be Controlled by Alexa

  1. After linking the accounts, you can ask Alexa to discover devices or tap the Discover Devices button in the app.
  2. Wait for Alexa to find your Home Assistant devices.

Step 4: Control Devices with Alexa

  1. Once the devices are discovered, you can control your Home Assistant devices with Alexa by simply saying commands like:
  1. “Alexa, turn on the lights.”
  2. “Alexa, set the thermostat to 21 degrees.”

Troubleshooting

  1. If devices don’t appear in Alexa after setup, try saying, “Alexa, discover devices.”
  2. Ensure that your Home Assistant instance is running and your Nifty cloud subscription is active.

Now, your Home Assistant devices should be successfully linked to Alexa, and you can control them via voice commands. If you encounter any issues during setup, please submit a support ticket at https://support.nifty.place for assistance.
