The Nifty Brain™ seamlessly integrates with the two leading voice control systems: Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. We have found these to be the most reliable and user-friendly options for smart home control. Once set up, your chosen voice assistant will automatically detect compatible devices on your network, allowing you to control them with simple voice commands.
Prerequisites
To use voice control, ensure you have:
✔ A Nifty cloud subscription (starting from just £9/month)
✔ Installed the Alexa or Google Home app and connected it to your home network
Using Voice Commands
Both Alexa and Google Assistant use similar commands, with the main difference being the wake word:
• Google Assistant’s wake word: “Hey Google”
• Alexa’s default wake word: “Alexa”
Example Commands
Alexa: “Alexa, turn off my bathroom light.”
Google: “Hey Google, turn off my bathroom light.”
The specific commands will depend on the device names and room assignments in your smart home system. You can check your app to see how your devices are named.
The general format for voice commands is:
(Wake word) + (Room) + (Device Type) + (Command)
Examples:
• “Alexa, turn the kitchen light off.”
• “Hey Google, set the lounge heater to 20 degrees.”
Extra bits:
- Lights: switches & dimmers
- Heaters: up down, on off
- Switches: on off
- Blinds up down open close
- Custom names
- Routines
